Clean Cooking Activities
Under the wPOWER project, CARE International is accomplishing the project objectives by building on its one million existing Village Saving and Loan Association (VSLA) members, and their Village Agent independent trainers, in a value chain that will reach from the capital cities of Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda, out to some of the most remote villages.
CARE will accomplish the first two objectives of the project, increasing access of women to small-scale clean energy markets, and increasing women's successful ownership and management of small scale last mile clean energy sales and distribution enterprises, by working with private sector partners who will use VSLAs as a platform for introducing improved cookstoves in and solar lamps through VSLAs in the three countries.
Partnership
CARE will contribute to achieving the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves objectives by, among other aspects:
i) Developing and establishing an innovative business structure/model, that is sustainable and scalable and capable of effectively reaching across Sub-Saharan Africa.
ii) Scaling up clean cookstove distribution.
iii) Undertaking a range of capacity building activities targeted at setting up a sound distribution system.
iv) Undertaking research, monitoring and evidence based learning that will contribute to the establishment of agreed global standards for the clean cookstove sector.
