Clean Cooking Activities

The Center for Sustainable Energy Technology (CSET), a local Liberian NGO, successfully fabricated and piloted metal kilns for Charcoal production and intends to up scale production and sale to charcoal entrepreneurs. We like to submit a project proposal to you, soliciting grant/collaboration for scale up fabrication to be sold at affordable costs to entrepreneurs using traditional production methods.

In Liberia, over 95% of the urban population uses charcoal. As a traditional fuel that has been used for hundreds of years, it serves as a lifeline for the rapidly increasing populations in urban centers, in addition to potentially significant portions of the rural population. Due to its low cost and availability, compared to other fuels like kerosene and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), the demand for charcoal is expected to continue rising dramatically in the coming decades, despite best efforts by modern energy advocates.

Partnership

The Center for Sustainable Energy Technology (CSET) as local not for profit NGO, would manage the local coordination of activities of the charcoal kiln project. CSET will conduct further assessments and surveys to establish potential clienteles, procure materials for kiln (s) fabrications in preferred sizes, establish price of kiln in collaboration with partner, establish and train corps of kiln entrepreneurs and operators, maintain financial accounting, pay salaries to project associates, monitor and report periodically on project activities; among others. CSET as a not for profit organization, will contract a private company for the sales, collection and deposit of revenue from the sales of the kiln in an approved account where CSET would be a signatory for the duration of the project.
CSET expects partners to provide funding for project administration, procurement and operations. In addition, CSET welcomes technical inputs and lessons learned from partners to enhance the smooth operation of the project.
