Clean Cooking Activities

Our project aimed to propose a sustainable alternative to reduce domestic consumption of firewood in the Atlantic Forest region of northeastern Brazil, through the implementation of an energy efficiency pilot project in a rural community. In order to reduce the impacts of firewood consumption, we performed the installation of 80 clean cooking stoves to reduce the consumption of firewood from Atlantic Forest remnants and educate the public about the impacts of the use of forest firewood and health of users of this fuel. We obtained an increase in energy efficiency of burning firewood, reducing by 60% the volume of fuel used compared to traditional cookstoves; reducing emissions of greenhouse gases, improving the life quality of people through the installation of chimneys that reduce the amount of smoke and particulate matter inhaled by people. This is still a pilot project, but got enough media attention locally and nationally and has substantially changed the lives of over 400 people in the poorest state in Brazil. Our idea is that this initiative will serve as an example to be implemented in other communities and change the reality of most people and improve the conservation of the remaining Atlantic forest of northeastern Brazil.

Partnership

We can contribute with our experiences, submit more proposals and implementing more projects of ecological cooking stoves, make events/seminar about this thematic in our region, and divulgate this tematic to government agencies and society in general.
