Design without Borders
Mission
Design without Borders is a Norwegian non-profit organisation founded with the conviction that design and designers can contribute to improving the lives of people in low and middle income countries and areas of crisis. Our offices in Norway and Uganda employ designers with expertise in industrial, service and systems oriented design.
We seek to collaborate with organisations, businesses and government agencies who wish to deliver innovative solutions that are accessible, affordable and desirable to disadvantaged people.

We have expertise in industrial and systems oriented design that has aided producers of energy efficient cooking stoves and charcoal briquettes improve the quality of their products and manufacturing efficiency of their production facilities. We have helped to redesign stoves to be more affordable and better fit the needs of customers. We have helped businesses automate manufacturing processes and streamline work flows to reduce costs.
Partnership
We seek to share our expertise in product, industrial and systems design to help the producers of clean cookstoves better meet the needs of their customers. With over 13 years of experience working in low and middle-income countries, we know how to adapt our tools to the unique contexts in which we work. Our human-centred design processes are inclusive; relying on the involvement of a wide range of stakeholders to create meaningful, relevant and sustainable solutions. We hope to find partners that can make use of our expertise to provide cleaner, more affordable cooking solutions for populations around the world.
