Clean Cooking Activities

Dishari is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, working for environmental conservation, human rights, and good governance. The annual consumption of some fuels in Bangladesh is about 39 million tons and it is about 83% of the total consumption in the country. It should be noted than only 4% of the population is covered through the natural gas supply networks in Bangladesh. Even most of the semi-urban and urban population use traditional fuels for cooking purpose. The use of traditional fuels is also being increased with rapid population growth. As a result, deforestation and consequently a change in the ecosystem are happening that in turn is leading to soil erosion and climate change. Therefore, wise use of traditional fuel is necessary to protect vegetation. Improved cookstoves, instead of traditional biomass cookstove, can ensure efficiency in use of traditional fuels (World energy council 2005). Moreover, improved stoves reduce smoke emission and health hazards especially to the cooks. Improved stove saves 50-70% fuel use compared to traditional ones. We are interested in working in this area.

Partnership

There are different fuels being used in Bangladesh that are grime and germ full. When the fuel is used for cooking food, the germ goes into full effect. However, by developing good fuel and a value chain to supply them, we can help develop healthy families and environments within the areas we work. We can achieve this by partnering to support this type of program and participating in clean cooking partnerships.
