Egluro operates in the UK and Nepal and is engaged in the development of ICS projects within Nepal.
Egluro's first project was a small-scale pilot project which was an offshoot of the National ICS Program, run by the CRT/N, and was launched in 2007. The Pilot Project was designed by CRT/N and funded entirely by Egluro. This was the first project of any kind in Nepal to be undertaken using carbon finance.
The Pilot Project's target region was the Chitwan District of Nepal, and ICS deployment took place in three Village Development Committees (VDCs), Meghauli, Shukranagar and Jagatpur. The Pilot Project's target to manufacture and distribute 1500 energy- efficient stoves was successfully achieved
We have one GS ICS Project underway in Nepal I have 3 additional Gold Standard Improved Cook Stove projects in Nepal which are approaching Registration (GS1284, GS1285, GS1287).
Following the success of the Pilot Project, a larger-scale ICS project operating in the 6 Terai Districts in the Southern portion of the Central Region of Nepal was then pursued.
CDM registration was achieved, followed by Gold Standard registration (GS756).
More than 10,000 ICS have been installed so far.
Following the success to-date of Egluro's first large-scale ICS project (i.e. the Central Region Project), Egluro has developed three additional ICS projects which are on the threshold of CDM registration and on receiving the required finance are ready to launch on the ground in the Central, Mid-Western and Eastern regions of Nepal.
Five Districts are covered: Morang & Saptari in the Eastern Region project, Chitwan in the Central Region project and Banke & Bardiya in the Mid-Western Region project.
Egluro's partner NGO in undertaking the ICS Portfolio activities is the Sustainable Development Centre (SDC), a Nepalese NGO. SDC will be responsible for the on-the-ground implementation of the project, including effecting the distribution of stoves and ensuring that they are properly monitored, playing a similar role to that played by CRT/N in the Central Region Project .
Partnership
Egluro have successfully developed 5 ICS projects in Nepal and we would welcome the opportunity to share our experience with others.
