Clean Cooking Activities

Foundation for Building Resilient Communities (FOBRECO) through support from Dutch NGO Stichting St Gabriel’s Hospital Malawi is distributing Econofire wood and Econochar charcoal stoves to women groups involved in Village savings and loan (VSL) groups and social entrepreneurs in rural and urban areas. The high efficient stoves deliver faster cooking, a healthier environment and decrease the fuel usage drastically with lifespan of not less than 5 years. The women groups are selling the improved stoves as part of income generation to improve their household livelihoods security and contributing to management of natural resources. We are also involved in promotion of briquettes made from rice husks which are locally available from rice mills. Karonga Young Entreprenuers Organisation is training out of school girls and boys in the making and distribution of these briquettes supported by Foundation for Building Resilient Communities.

Partnership

FOBRECO would like to play an implementation role in this partnership through distribution of improved clean cook stoves and community capacity building in clay stoves production both in urban and rural areas in Malawi. This will target women groups and social entrepreneurs in order to reach out to many households and contribute to reduced deforestation and improving health living in Malawi. We have trained and experienced staff to facilitate mobilization and implementation and capacity building of groups in social entrepreneurship. We work through local governance structures to reach out to intended project participants.
