Organization
Fuego del Sol / FdS Haiti
Mission
FdS Haiti works to facilitate ecologically and socially beneficial development in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Local people are consulted and empowered throughout the R & D and implementation process in a Co-Creation model.
By working to replace Haiti's deadly charcoal dependence, FdS is creating jobs, exportation income, and economic autonomy by directly addressing Environmental Racism through the beneficial, co-created, self-sufficient, pollution-minimizing goal of Haitian-produced non-carbonized biomass fuel and ultra-efficient stoves.
Organizational Expertise
Carbon Finance, Health
Other Organizational Expertise
Fuego del Sol S.R.L. (FdS) researches, evaluates, introduces and promotes the best ecological technology solutions to issues that affect Dominican and Haitian families on a daily basis. Initial technologies include Sun Ovens and efficient biomass stoves.;FdS manufactures Sun Ovens in the DR following Fair Trade standards. FdS founded the first Eco Test Kitchen in the Caribbean where all stove technologies are invited to display. FdS focuses on GeoTourism as a financial engine to promote eco-development.
Technologies & Fuels
Biomass (Ag. Residue, Processed Biomass, etc.), Crop residues, Pellets / Briquettes, Solar, Wood
Other Technologies Fuels
Also produce solar stoves.
Clean Cooking Activities
FdS Haiti SA is also a long-term member of the CCA since the organization’s founding. FdS has developed an ecological non-carbonized fuel briquette made of recycled paper, cardboard, sawdust, and other widely available biomass in Haiti. FdS has also developed an ultra-efficient customized TLUD stove ( to cook traditional Haitian food utilizing our briquettes. Dr. Paul Anderson (“Dr. TLUD”) is our advisor on the project. In 2012, FdS was invited by CCA partner, the UN WFP, to move operations to Haiti and produce recycled fuel briquettes for the WFP School Feeding Program. FdS briquettes are a relatively low-density fuel, and thus must be paired with an ultra-efficient cookstove in order to compete with Haitian charcoal cooking. However, FdS briquettes have many advantages: they are made from 100% recycled materials; they are non-carbonized so 100% of the source-fuel material goes into the finished briquette, and none is burned away in production. In 2012, FdS did R&D market surveys and determined that in general, Haitian consumers do not prefer to cook with fuel-pellet stoves because the pellets are too easily confused with animal feed. FdS briquettes are, in contrast, easy to identify as fuel for cooking. We provide consulting services throughout the DR/Haiti with over 15 years experience on the island of Hispaniola.
