Clean Cooking Activities
As part of our resilience technical approach, WV works in communities under vulnerable conditions, aiming to develop capacities at the individual and community level to prevent, reduce and overcome root causes of poverty, extreme poverty and risk due to natural or social phenomena.
Providing clean cooking alternatives or cook stoves to the communities and families under the most vulnerable conditions due to natural disasters or prone to internal migration and internal forced displacement due to poverty and natural disasters is a part of our capacity building process which strives to improve health and nutrition state, mainly of children and women. Our work focuses on engaging women in the whole process, in order to make them active actors in the process as well as to reinforce their leadership role within their communities.
Partnership
World Vision Guatemala has a very strong background working in alliance with other international non-governmental organizations, international cooperation agencies and donors as well as community based organizations, which helps articulate holistic interventions when it comes to respond in an immediate way to a natural disaster or social risk situation. However, the long lasting bond WV establishes with the communities where we work, we also try to engage in projects and alliances that will allow us to provide sustainable alternatives for people to settle and manage themselves (as individuals, families and as a community) after the emergency has passed. We believe in joining efforts to reduce structural causes of poverty as well as preparing vulnerable communities and build up their resilience, which is why we consider the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, because it is not just about providing families in need with new technology, is about building their capacities to use the new technology and transform it into long term improvement.
