Clean Cooking Activities

Jatropha cultivation within the familly agriculture sector. The farmers organized in clubs/associations, produce jatropha as a fence in their food crops fields. With the produced jatropha, they can sell the seeds to local firms, that are interested in this cash crop. The farmers also use the jatropha seeds locally, for illumination (they use the oil of jatropha as a substitute of kerosene), for cooking (they use the seeds in their cooking stoves) and they produce soap. At the moment this project is benefiting at least 400 farmers in the districts of Ancuabe and Quissanga. And the indirect beneficiaries (family members of the farmers) are approximately 2000. This number inccludes children that are able to study at night and do their home-works, and women that are reducing the time they use to fetch wood and they can sell the soaps and have an income.

Within this project, in Ancuabe, was installed a Multi-Functional Unity, comprising 2 presses (for jatropha oil and other oleaginous like peanut, sesame) and a miller. This initiative is encouraging the farmers and they are believing that the biofuels can be source of energy, as they can use the jatropha oil to power these presses and miller.
