Mission
KUSCCO is the umbrella body of savings and credit cooperatives (SACCOs) in Kenya. It was registered in 1973 to advocate for a level environment in which SACCOs can operate in. Thus, KUSCCO is actively engaged in all advocacy issues affecting growth and development of SACCOs. It promotes their networking and collaboration with stakeholders at both local and international level.

Clean Cooking Activities
We are implementing a clean and fuel efficient cookstoves program funded by USAID/Winrock International. We finance SACCOs from a Revolving Fund Kitty for them to purchase cookstoves from program-approved distributors for their individual members.
Currently we are implementing phase/year 2 of the two-year program (Developing a Sustainable Cookstove Sector (DSCS) Program). As a finance institution, we are facilitating SACCOs to borrow loans (with stipulated terms & conditions) to on-lend to their individual members strictly for purchase of cookstoves from approved cookstoves distributors. Additionally, we are also conducting capacity building programs for KUSCCO marketers, approved cookstoves distributors staff and SACCO officials directly involved in cookstove acquisition. Our target is to reach all SACCOs in Kenya taking up loan facility or purchasing on cash basis the cookstoves reaching over 80,000 households in the project period. While the project is funded, KUSCCO directly contributes financially on cost-share basis.
Partnership
KUSCCO is already partnering with USAID/Winrock International and are ready for continued partnerships in renewable energy. Our contribution is already developed in terms of lending infrastructure, ICT-software, staffing, mobilizing finance, marketing, training, working tools. Additionally, we have desired experience and lessons learned from previous engagements.
