Clean Cooking Activities

LMRF’s innovative research also addresses the third largest risk for global burden of diseases in Asia - household air pollution (HAP) as a result of use of solid fuels in traditional cookstoves, We are evaluating advanced stoves adoption and HAP reduction by different stove designs in collaboration with National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur for small-scale Trials of Improved Practices (TIPS) and exposure assessment using UCB monitors and Honeywell monitors for CO.
We are currently proposing to conduct a randomized controlled trial to assess the effectiveness of an advanced cooking stove (ACS) in reducing household air pollution (HAP) and its impact on pregnancy outcomes and respiratory morbidity in young infants

Partnership

Organization has a group of trained personnel with expertise in environmental health and with learnings from workshops and meeting conducted by the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves. With its ongoing community health research in partnership with State Public Health Systems in Maharashtra State catering to the population of over 6 lacs, could very well contribute to Alliance agenda as a partner besides leading to translation of research results into policy. It has collaborations with NEERI and Environmental studies department at University of Nagpur. It also has collaboration with Sri Ramchandra University (SRU) Chennai for forthcoming research.
