Strengthening Livelihood Security of Climate Change Vulnerable People
The negative impacts of climate change make Bangladesh one of the most vulnerable country in the world. In the last two decades or so, increased frequency of floods, droughts, tidal surge and cyclones caused extensive economic damage and impacted livelihoods of the poor and marginal population who have been living in the fragile coastal areas of Bangladesh. Extreme weather events, monsoon variability and Sea Level Rise (SLR) induced salinity have forced to change the traditional cropping patterns of agriculture. In many part of the coastal region crop cultivation has been replaced by shrimp farming in saline-water which occurs serious impact on livelihood and food security of marginalized population. The situation forced the climate induced migration.
To improved quality of life of climate vulnerable people in the southwest coastal region, LEDARS has taken a pilot program with the support of Bread for the World. In this project LEDARS will work with 400 vulnerable families to increase climate adaptive agro-based livelihood practices, improve food security, increase practices of climate change adaptive alternative livelihood and increased access to safe drinking water.
LEDARS is a NGO working in the coastal area of Bangladesh. LEDARS is climate change adaptation and mitigation focus implementing organization in south western region of Bangladesh. . LEDARS believes that, though the carbon foot print of per capita is so low, but it is important to have low carbon pathway even in the village level to save the globe and community development.
Scaling up the clean cook stove program in community level: We would like to participate in the partnership of this initiative to extend our community program to more vulnerable people in rural Bangladesh. People in rural level are not so much aware and motivate about carbon efficient practice in their daily life. LEDARS would love to make aware community people about it and also help community people to have one clean cook stove for their family.
Technological intervention: LEDARS would love to introduce more efficient clean cook stove technology in the community level with technical and financial support of Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves and it's other partners organization. ®
Achieving the Mission of Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves: LEDARS will work to achieve the mission of Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves in any way. LEDARS will help Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves to technological interventions in Bangladesh, piloting any new and good technology in Bangladesh.
