We are currently running two projects in Everest region and Gorkha district of Nepal. Everest IAP study is jointly being done with the scientists from University of Ferrara, Italy and MMSN. The Gorkha IAP study is supported by University of Oxford and University of Munich.
Both of these study explore into the effects of household air pollution in the lung healths of exposed populations. The Gorkha IAP study mainly tests the hypothesis that the chronic adverse effects of IAP on lung functions take at least 10 years of clean (biogas) fuel use to revert after being exposed with IAP from solid fuel use. We are measuring more than 500 adult women and doing the pollutants measurement during summer and winter.
Partnership
Our organisation can contribute in the partnership by scientific evaluation of the interventions especially focussed with their health benefits and time it takes for the benefit to occur. The dose response relationship of IAP has not been well established yet and we are not sure how long it will take for the intervention to have any positive effect in bettering the lung function. We want to contribute in establishing the science related to household air pollution and its health effects and measurable health benefits of interventions.
