We distribute highly efficient biomass, LPG and electric clean cookstoves to low income households across Mozambique. We also supply cookstoves to carbon developers and we collaborate with major corporates in Mozambique in achieving their CSR purposes with clean cooking. With a factory in Matola, we produce at least 10,000 stoves monthly, promoting jobs to young people, especially women. Click here for more details on our work in this area and how we can collaborate. We are currently developing a Cookstove Program of Activities with over 200,000 biomass stoves distributed in Mozambique across 6 Verified Project Activities (VPAs). The projects are carefully audited by certified auditors to measure the alignment with Gold Standard Certification Requirements and Procedures. We are also collaborate with other project developers to implement projects together, creating bennefits to low income households in Mozambique. MozCarbon provides expert consulting in carbon projects, with focus on clean cooking, emissions reductions, and sustainability. We support cookstove, solar, and REDD+ projects, offering certification, carbon footprint management. We also support organizations working on clean cooking and other development issues in Monitoring and Impact Evaluation. Our certified initiatives help organizations meet CSR goals, support communities, and offset emissions through verified carbon credits. MozCarbon advances SDGs by promoting clean energy, economic empowerment, and environmental conservation. Our initiatives bennefited so far aproximately 1 million people by reducing charcoal and firewood use by 50%, cut 300,000 tons of CO₂e emissions annually, and lower smoke by 70%, improving respiratory health. Households save 50% on energy costs, while women gain 1.2 extra hours daily for productive activities. With 70% female staff, we create 500+ jobs and manufacture 10,000 cookstoves monthly, making clean energy accessible to low-income households.
Clean Cooking Activities
The Problem: The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, shows that in Mozambique a large proportion of the polpulation (96%) still rely on solid fuels (firewood and charcoal) for cooking. This poses serious problems including deaths related to indoor air polution (13000 annually from which 50% are children), deforestation, and unsafe and expensive cooking fuels and stoves.
The Solution: MozCarbon is implementing a Program of Activities – Efficient and Clean Cooking for Mozambican Low Income Households. The programme will distribute and monitor the use of improved biomass cookstoves (wood and charcoal) and advanced clean cooking technologies such as electric and LPG stoves in Mozambique. Several types of stoves were identified and some were distributed: Envirofit models (CH2200 charcoal, Econochar charcoal, Econofire wood), Rocket Works, Mbaula stove (a stove with a metal sheet or aluminium with clay based charcoal rest), Zavala stove (clay based charcoal stove) and ACE 1 cookstove.
