Clean Cooking Activities
We use clean cookstoves to impact the lives and livelihoods of people in East Africa through distribution of high quality products and through supporting women and youth to become clean energy entrepreneurs. In Uganda, we have worked with Mercy Corps since early 2017 on recruitment and training of 200+ women and youth entrepreneurs in Northern and Eastern region and we will continue to mentor the potential entrepreneurs.
In Kenya, we have established strong partnership with religious organisations, especially churches, and developed a Green Church/Green Mosque initiative that seeks to enable churches/mosques to lead the turn to clean energy and a cleaner environment. It involves that religious leaders promote the uptake of clean energy solutions and entrepreneurs within the organisations sell to fellow members as well as the broader community. Women form the backbone of churches and are therefore in focus of this initiative.
Partnership
We would like to participate in the alliance in order to benefit from the sharing of knowledge, research results, and learning within the alliance. One staff took part in the women entrepreneurship training held in Nairobi 2017 and we have since used the entrepreneurship handbook for our own training of women and youth entrepreneurs. Our familiarity with the alliance from Kenya, especially the high quality of the training material and the newsletters, means that we view participation in the this partnership as critical for growing our operation in Uganda.
We believe that our innovative approach, especially our Green Churches/Green Mosques initiative can generate new learning that would be relevant for other members and the alliance as such.
