Clean Cooking Activities
PARDO has been working with communities to improve biomass use through the promotion of energy efficient portable clay cook stoves in the rural households. PARDO is interested to partner with Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves to implement a comprehensive package of solutions (use of energy efficient devices, profitable production and marketing of these devices, efficient wood fuel use and kitchen management). With such partnership it is feasible to reach multiple, long-lasting environmental, economic, and social benefits at the local, national and global level. Therefore, this partnership promotes the local production and aims to develop a local market for portable clay cook stoves, which are not only affordable to the poor rural communities but also contribute to the overall sustainable development.
Partnership
The partnership will focus on engaging rural women because not only are they overlooked in terms of economic opportunity, but they are also the primary drivers of technology adaptation in the household. By intentionally engaging women, we create economic opportunity and create employment as well as direct our outreach to the primary consumers of household energy. Not only will it create income for women who have few other cash earning opportunities, it is the most effective approach to reach rural homes. PARDO will train stove producers groups to professionally produce and to promote and market portable clay stoves in rural area and on local markets market their stoves. The stoves can be produced entirely from locally available potter clay keeping the costs of production at the minimum. As a result, women are empowered both intellectually and financially and will increase their knowledge and become leaders in their homes and their communities. However, these low income women lack training and resources for an initial investment.
