Clean Cooking Activities

The Gold Standard Foundation is the leading carbon certification standard for improved cookstove projects. It has over 100 improved cookstove projects in its global project pipeline, over 50% of which are located in sub-Saharan Africa. Some of our initiatives are as follows: (1) In 2011, GSF released Version 3 of its cookstove carbon accounting methodology, titled “Technologies and Practices to Displace Decentralized Thermal Energy Consumption." (2) In 2011 GSF also re-designed its micro-scale scheme to allow streamlined procedures, additionality assessments and transaction costs for the smallest projects that might not otherwise be able to access the carbon markets. (3) Last year, GSF released special procedures for projects in conflict zones and refugee camps.

Partnership

GSF's expertise is in environmental markets, and, in particular, helping small to medium sized enterprises access these markets. GSF would like to participate in the partnership in order to (1) de-mystify climate finance for many of the Alliance's stakeholders, (2) educate the partnership about how to properly design a cookstove project as a carbon mitigation project, and (3) to work with the partnership to continue GSF's innovative technical work to make the carbon markets and other climate financing mechanisms easier to access.
