Clean Cooking Activities

The Nature Conservancy is about to embark on a pilot project in Papua New Guinea involving clean cookstoves, as part of a broader program focused on climate change adaptation. This builds on work we have been doing in PNG, focused on women's empowerment, climate change, and sustainable forest management for over 20 years. We also have a Sustainable Wood Fuels program in East Africa which is aiming to draw out a roadmap for the future of Africa’s sustainable wood fuel consumption. This project supports the planting of billions of new trees and innovative ways to convert wood into energy more efficiently, including through the use of cleaner cookstoves.

Partnership

The Nature Conservancy is excited to collaborate with the Global Alliance on Clean Cookstoves, and the diverse range of partners that make up this alliance. As a relative newcomer to the clean cooking sphere, we would like to learn from the rich experience that existing partners bring to the alliance, and to gather information on tools/methodologies for effective implementation of clean cooking projects and programs. We have extensive experience in community engagement, sustainable resource management, biodiversity conservation and women's empowerment, and would also look forward to sharing these experiences and lessons learned with other interested alliance partners.
