Clean Cooking Activities

As an Authority , Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is mandated to develop and promote standardization, quality assurance, laboratory testing and metrology.

UNBS activities include:
Standards development; Assisting manufacturers and producers to improve on the quality of their products and services; Providing information services on all matters related to standards, quality assurance, metrology and testing; Market surveillance to rid the market of dangerous, counterfeit and substandard products; Verifying accuracyand calibrating measuring and testing equipment used in industry; and Carrying out shipment inspection and conformity assessment for exports, imports and tender supplies; Carrying out factory inspection to evaluate conformance with standards.

Liaison with national, regional and international standardisation and related bodies inline with the National cookstoves program, UNBS has in the pass developed standards for Biomass cookstoves (Improved cookstoves), standards briquettes, and other standards in energy efficiency including biofuels. UNBS has also been testing stoves for certification and obtaining carbon finance supports. UNBS is collaborating with Uganda National Alliance for Clean cooking and is ready to participate actively in the International standards development, harmonization and adoption/adaption and testing of the stoves with support of Global Alliance and other partners.

Partnership

Given our mandate we shall participate in the; development and harmonization of standards(Nationally, Regionally and Internationally) and promotion of standards, Testing of stoves, conformity assessment based on the standards, enforce the the implementation through inspection and surveillance, training and consultancy. We have a team of competent, with with more than 20 years experience in the field of standardization, Quality Assurance, metrology and testing.
