Mission
The Energy for Development research group (E4D), within the University of Strathclyde works to further understanding around sustainable energy provision, particularly in the global south. The group participates in projects which incorporate technical, social, economic, political and environmental aspects of energy generation and use including cooking through the Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) programme.

Clean Cooking Activities
In alignment with the MECS programme's aims, E4D seeks to “rapidly accelerate the transition from biomass to clean cooking on a global scale”. The group is involved in 3 key areas: country specific research on modern cooking in Malawi, technical research on the impact of cooking loads on electrical network infrastructure and conducting a Global Market Assessment for electric cooking.
Partnership
E4D is looking to participate in research and implementation, and share knowledge and expertise around rural energy access, off-grid energy solutions and effecting a transition towards modern cooking. In particular, E4D seeks contributions to its work on a Global Market Assessment for electric cooking, gathering perspectives and data from across the world.
E4D collaborates with a number of academic and non-academic partners, particularly in Malawi and East Africa, and is an active member of renewable energy networks in the region. As such, the research group can bring their existing networks for other partners to access.
