Mission

UpEnergy fights energy poverty and climate change with projects and technology that benefit those most vulnerable to climate risks. We do this with support from partners who believe in a just energy transition in which low-income people are prioritized by climate finance.

Our approach in everything we do centers on applying our expertise across climate finance, monitoring and evaluation, engineering, behavioral science, and local operational insights. This ensures we deliver projects with high integrity, measurable impact, and significant social benefit

Clean Cooking Activities

UpEnergy is committed to serving low-income communities across the energy ladder, aiming to reduce or eliminate biomass consumption wherever possible. In off-grid areas without electricity, where families rely on biomass fuels and inefficient stoves, we focus on locally manufacturing and distributing fuel-efficient cookstoves. These stoves offer practical, durable solutions that reduce charcoal needs, delivering immediate savings to those who depend on charcoal for their daily cooking needs. As we transition communities to on-grid scenarios higher up the Energy Ladder, electricity becomes a leapfrog opportunity to entirely bypass fossil fuels, including charcoal, bolstered by the growth of renewable energy across the globe. UpEnergy introduces a variety of electric cooking technologies that eliminate direct emissions associated with biomass cooking, thereby reducing household air pollution. This approach enables low-income communities to avoid becoming locked into fossil fuel pathways.
