Clean Cooking Activities

WomenStrong International's project in Kisumu Kenya (Alice Visionary Foundation Project) is leading the way in clean energy for the Consortium. We will be using a Group Savings & Loan model to facilitate affordable energy technology upgrade for participating Groups and individuals, to supply them with low-cost, pre-financed household lighting, cooking,
roadside trade lighting and semi-commercial cooking energy systems. Alice Visionary Foundation Project plans to train the women’s GS&L groups in clean energy use and to be able to provide them with clean-burning cook stoves. In addition, we would like to work with organizations supplying affordable solar lamps and to use them for their children to read at night and to light up the road as they sell at night.

Partnership

WomenStrong International (WSI) envisions contributing to this partnership in two ways: 1) Building the evidence-base: WSI is implementing a comprehensive developmental monitoring, evaluation and learning approach to all of our work. By building an evidence base over time for how our unique approach to clean energy utilization increases women's economic vitality, improves health, enables children to study at night and more - we will be able to share our findings with partners in a way that can be replicated and scaled; and 2) Connecting practitioners via our multifaceted online platform - WSI will build a broad coalition of development and humanitarian practitioners who will be able to utilize and contribute to our online platform by sharing best practices, resources and innovative ideas in the clean energy sector (as well as other sectors which contribute to women and girls empowerment) in order to build a stronger global community. Importantly, we will also connect women and girls in development settings and acute crisis zones to create a productive exchange of ideas and experiences. In this way, WSI hopes to establish this platform as a trusted destination for practical information, aimed at helping women and girls realize their full potential.
