Other Technologies Fuels

The Wonderbag consists of 2 polystyrene-filled cushions that insulate a cooking pot and retain the heat well enough to continue the cooking process after the pot has been removed from the stove or cooking fire.

Clean Cooking Activities

The Wonderbag is a simple but revolutionary non-electric slow cooker developed for women without access to clean cooking. After bringing a pot of food to the boil and placing it in a foam-insulated Wonderbag, the food will continue cooking for up to 12 hours without additional heat. Because the pot spends a fraction of time on the fire or stove, Wonderbag cooking reduces by 70% the amount of wood, charcoal, and other dirty-burning fuels used in the home. This saves hours of time and labor, and improves indoor air quality and overall health.
In one year, a Wonderbag creates the following benefits
70% less fuel needed to cook
Up to 2 tons carbon emissions mitigated
60% less indoor air pollution
1,000 litres cooking water spared
1,300 hours diverted from unpaid labor
10x increase in the income of women living in extreme poverty
5 large trees saved from deforestation

If 100 million families cooked with Wonderbags, they could save almost 8% of the global CO2 reductions needed every year to keep the planet under a 2 degree Celsius temperature rise.

Partnership

Wonderbag is currently distributed in regions across Africa. Distribution takes place through community initiatives, corporate funded-programmes, and sales to individual consumers. We would like to partner with clean cooking fuel producers, social responsibility leaders, and others to help families fully access the benefits of clean cooking. We can contribute manufacturing skills as well as marketing and behavior change experience. Our established relationships in several African countries which can be leveraged in support of the Alliance.
