Communications Coordinator, Energy Program, WRI
Job Summary:
World Resources Institute seeks a Communications Coordinator that can develop and execute impactful communication strategies that extend our influence, media coverage and online presence. You will work closely with our team of experts and the Energy Program’s Communications Manager. In this position, you will be responsible for tailoring communication approaches for maximum impact, helping to develop communications strategies, draft and edit blog posts, op-eds and newsletters, create interactive tools and infographics, maintain media relationships, oversee publication production processes and manage events and webinars. You will also be responsible for assisting with communications outreach for a range of impactful teams on the Energy Program.
This position is remote due to Covid-19, but you will be based in Washington, DC once restrictions have lifted.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute strategic communication plans to support high-priority projects within the Energy Program
- Work with staff and leadership across the Institute to identify outreach opportunities and highlight WRI research, analysis, and experts in the media
- Develop and execute a social media strategy for the Energy Program informed by methodical analytics and latest best practices
- Lead communications for WRI’s US-based energy work, including developing strategies, leading on launches, and more
- Work with communications and research experts to oversee efficient execution of existing communications processes regarding publications and communications activities
- Work with WRI’s Department of Communications to enhance WRI’s visibility through online communications, media outreach, internal/external events, and other venues as appropriate
- Coordinate with research staff across WRI’s programs, centers and international offices to support global projects as well as identify opportunities for more impactful collaboration across teams
- Work with experts to develop compelling concept notes, presentations and messaging about WRI’s analysis and initiatives
- Develop and execute creative ways to translate analysis and policy recommendations into compelling storylines, including through multimedia online content, such as videos, photos, and infographics
- Pitch stories and respond to media inquiries related to climate change and related topics, and work proactively to channel WRI activities and knowledge products to key media outlets to achieve real-world outcomes
- Write and edit material including blog posts, op-eds, e-blasts and other compelling communications that serves to translate technical material for various audiences
- Regularly track and evaluate metrics of success, and adapt strategies to grow and improve outreach results over time
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
- Minimal of 3 years of full-time, relevant professional experience working in public relations, journalism, or communications with salient link to climate, energy or broader environmental issues
- Experience with communications planning, publications development, marketing, and other specialized communications skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to produce materials focused on diverse external audiences
- Experience working with reporters or members of the media (and established media contacts)
- Proven ability to lead the planning, coordination, and execution of communications products, influence strategies, and audience targeting
- Experience overseeing institutional social media platforms and regularly tracking analytics to inform social media outreach strategies
- A proven track record of searching for and implementing innovative approaches focused on achieving results or amplifying impact
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced office environment, both independently and as part of a global team
- Excellent inter-personal communication skills, including the ability to encourage collaboration with other programs, international offices, and partners
- Highly motivated, proactive work style and excellent organizational skills ; Ability to think creatively and collaboratively about all elements of communications work
- Adaptable to rapidly changing priorities and able to manage multiple deadlines and deliver high quality work products Strong commitment to WRI’s mission and values
- Strong oral communications skills required
- US work authorization is required for this position
Preferred
- Experience working in a large US or global organization
- Existing relationships with influential energy or environmental reporters at leading media outlets
- Skills & Other Qualifications: Articulate, versatile, highly-skilled writer with professional writing experience (professional writing samples required);
Potential Salary:
$53,000 – $68,000 if based in United States. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
