Energy Specialist – Solar for Health Project (UNDP Zambia)
Job Description:
UNDP Zambia is hiring an Energy Specialist to support its Solar for Health Project, aimed at scaling up solar energy solutions in rural and remote healthcare facilities. The role focuses on delivering clean, reliable energy access aligned with Zambia’s national health and climate goals and SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy).
Key responsibilities include:

Leading technical assessments and site selection for solar PV installations

Designing sustainable solar energy systems that meet national policy and regulatory standards

Developing innovative financing mechanisms (e.g. blended finance, PPPs, carbon credits)

Building institutional capacity for solar system management at national and subnational levels

Coordinating with key stakeholders: Ministry of Health, Ministry of Energy, private sector, and development partners

Monitoring performance metrics, documenting best practices, and reporting to partners
Qualifications:

Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in energy, environmental studies, engineering, or related field; Bachelor’s + 2 years additional experience also considered

Minimum 5 years’ (Master’s) or 7 years’ (Bachelor’s) relevant work experience in energy project development, technical advisory, or policy work in Africa

Strong experience in renewable energy system design, financing models, stakeholder engagement

Excellent communication, project management, and policy advisory skills

Fluency in English required
