PayGas Partnered with CCA to Support Expanding Pay as you Gas™ Solutions in West Africa
Following the success of the PayGas’s Johannesburg Pilot launch, CCA’s Venture Catalyst Program provided follow-up support for PayGas to explore the feasibility of expanding operations and its Pay as you Gas™ LPG cooking fuel stations into three West African countries: Côte d’ Ivoire, Senegal, and Nigeria.
The project provided research on expansion potential for these countries and supported the deployment of in-country consultants to help PayGas’s team better understand their unique business model in the context of these new markets.
The scope of the feasibility studies included:
- Conducting stakeholder and supply chain mapping, risk analyses, and detailed LPG value chain analyses.
- Exploring options for integration of digital payment solutions in each market.
- Exploring opportunities for the franchising and licensing of PayGas’ technology.
- Providing insight into business model adaption required at the national level.
As a result of the feasibility study, PayGas prioritized Nigeria as a high-potential country for its business model and is now working to launch a pilot project in Abuja which the Venture Catalyst Program will support.
“As we continue to roll out stations in South Africa, PayGas wanted to be strategic about where we expand next. We believe that the PayGas business model can scale efficiently and we want to demonstrate this to the market. With the calculated help of CCA, we were able to explore in detail potential markets in West Africa and prioritize Nigeria as the next expansion effort. Thanks to the result of the feasibility study supported by CCA, we opened PayGas Nigeria Limited in March 2021. Without CCA’s decisive support, this expansion project would have taken far longer to achieve. We are very excited about Nigeria and we look forward to continuing to work with CCA as we launch a pilot there in the first half of 2022.”
