Registration for Nepal Stove Design and Performance Testing Workshop
The U.S. EPA and Winrock International are pleased to announce the next in our series of technical capacity building workshops. The primary objective of this capacity building initiative is to equip organizations with stove testing knowledge to inform and improve stove design, performance and use. This current initiative builds on U.S. EPA’s evaluation of stove performance in the laboratory and previous field testing in Nepal, India, Peru, Rwanda, Laos, Bangladesh, Uganda, Vietnam, Mexico and Benin. You can learn more about these past efforts at https://www.pciaonline.org/proceedings and at https://epa.gov/cookstoves.
The workshop will take place in Kathmandu, Nepal from Monday, September 9th through Friday, September 13th, hosted by the Alternative Energy Promotion Center (AEPC) and the Center for Rural Technology, Nepal (CRT-N). The training will take place at the Renewable Energy Test Station (RETs), Khumaltar, Lalitpur, and will be conducted by Aprovecho Research Center. The focus for this event will be stove design and performance testing with an emphasis on the Water Boiling Test (WBT) and the Controlled Cooking Test (CCT). Participants in the workshop will learn how to test, evaluate and improve stove models. This is a hands-on workshop intended for organizations that directly implement stove programs in Nepal, and specifically for individuals who are involved in stove design and testing for their organization. Because space is limited, please be sure to register the appropriate stove design and testing representative from your organization. Participation is limited to one person per organization.
The registration deadline for this workshop is Monday, September 2nd, 2013. Participants will be responsible for paying for their own meals, travel costs and lodging.
The workshop content and discussions will occur in English with translation to Nepalese, if needed. At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Conduct a WBT and CCT and analyze results to evaluate the performance of their stove.
- Apply WBT and CCT results to improve stove design, performance and use.
- Share knowledge with others working in this field to build capacity on a regional level.
Workshop participation criteria – Participants must:
- Be based in or currently working in Nepal.
- Be actively manufacturing and/or selling/disseminating improved stoves (or providing training/stove testing for those who do).
- Be responsible for stove design and testing within their organization.
- Be willing to complete an organizational stove testing action plan, submit a workshop evaluation and complete 3-month follow up report detailing action taken as a result of this training.
