Alliance Launches Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Leaders Advancing Clean Cooking Solutions
The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves has announced a call for nominations for the newly-launched Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The award recognizes outstanding female leaders in the household energy sector who are advancing clean cooking solutions in emerging markets.
The winner of the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award will receive:
- US$1,000 grant to be used towards the winner’s activities in the clean cookstoves & fuels sector;
- Sponsorship to attend the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves’ Women’s Energy Entrepreneurship Workshop in Nairobi, Kenya in February 2017 including lodging and airfare to/from Nairobi;
- International recognition in the Alliance newsletter, website, social media, and other materials;
- Photoshoot to highlight the winner’s work and impact in the sector.
“The Alliance has long recognized the importance of women entrepreneurs in the clean cookstoves and fuels sector,” said Radha Muthiah, CEO of the Alliance. “Too often women in developing countries are seen as the cooks, as opposed to the business and jobs creators. The Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award recognizes the crucial role women play in innovation, scaling, and adoption of clean cooking technologies.”
Nominees for the award must be working to advance clean cooking solutions in emerging markets with a minimum 2 years of experience (preferably 5+ years of experience) working in the clean cooking sector and currently hold the position of CEO, COO, or other leadership role within their organization/institution. Nominees should serve as role models for young women and have a strong track record of leadership in the household energy sector with demonstrable impact on the clean cooking sector in particular. Finally, nominees must be a resident / national of at least one country in which she works to advance access to household energy.
Nominations for the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award will be accepted beginning October 11, 2016, and must be completed by November 13, 2016. The winner will be selected in December. Contestants may self-nominate.
