We are working on climate change and biodiversity conservation in Bihar. We are also working on natural resource management and generate income through alternative sustainable rural livelihood.
Technologies & Fuels
Biomass (Ag. Residue, Processed Biomass, etc.), Solar
Clean Cooking Activities
Model 1:® Clean & Renewable Energy® for sustainable rural development through solar light and generate a income for sustainable rural livelihood through centralized solar power station with the support of TERI, New Delhi. This is the final solution of sustainable and clean energy for rural India and create employment opportunity to the rural entrepreneur also. We are Providing clean light® through this® campaign in 600 households with involvement of 10 village entrepreneurs in 8 districts of Bihar presently.
Livelihood opportunity:® The project will give® ‘green job'® opportunity to SHG member from the local communities who would be operating and managing these charging stations and earning an income from renting the lanterns villages. In addition, additional livelihood activities are also expected to be initiated in the villages because of extra hours of lighting.® From field experience, we have observed that at least 10-20% of lanterns are used for economic activity in the village. Thus the project offers ample scope to create indirect employment opportunity for rural community.
Clean lighting: The project will provide better illumination and smoke (kerosene) free indoor environment for women to do household chores and carry out self-help group activities;
Health:® Indoor air pollution caused due to use of kerosene lamps in the rural household is one of the major reasons of different kind of lung related disease especially among women in the rural area.® The use of solar lantern will provide them clean source of lighting and thus reducing various health related problem of village community.
Education:® Education is the key to success of a society. The project will help provide longer studying hours for children particularly for girls who are usually busy during the day with household activities.
Savings of kerosene oil:® On an average, each kerosene lamp consumes around 50 -60 liters every year. So, each charging station is expected to save around 2500-3000 liters of kerosene every year.
Safety and Security:® It will also bring safe and secure environment for villagers especially women and elders at night.
In House Pollution Free: We create pollution free Zone in side the® house among most vulnerable community of the rural areas.
Model 2: Improved Cook Stoves
“IEED is promoting Improved Cook Stoves and Improved Solar Light Product with the® approved solar lighting devices and connection points from TERI approved solar micro-grids.
“We are implementing Improved cook stoves and improved solar light product in 60 villages Sitamadhi, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Supaul, Saharsa and Samastipur districts of Bihar.
Improved Cook Stoves and Improved Lighting Devices based on® “Clean Energy Technologies†provide by® TERI ®
We have selected “Entrepreneur‮ ® which an individual or group or association who are engaged in sales and/or service of clean energy technologies and its products in the particular site as envisaged in the project.
“ Established® Solar Charging Station‮ or® “SCS‮ are the unit containing the hardware packages and facility for charging solar lanterns, batteries and other devices, customized to suit the existing local conditions designed, and developed by TERI in the village selected from within the Site
“Solar Micro-Grids‮ or® “SMG‮ ® are the unit containing the hardware packages and facility for providing lighting for multiple households with two luminaire points per household.® ® ® ® ®
“Light point‮ is defined as one household/ shop connected to a Solar Micro-grid or one lantern.
“Products‮ Solar lighting devices (viz. Solar Charging Station, Solar Micro Grid, Solar Home Lighting Products, Task Light and Individual Lanterns with solar panels) and Cooking device (improved biomass cook stoves)
