The key opportunities within the Peruvian cookstove sector are increasing awareness within the wider population, encouraging local government to take ownership and increasing the focus on project sustainability e.g. monitoring and evaluation, maintenance, supporting post implementation. Cookstove programs should build on the strength of the sector to encourage private companies to address demand in households not eligible for ‘free stove’ initiatives, as well as improving repair and replacement procedures. The government drive for clean fuels should be supported in a manner that limits negative consequences to the sector/society overall.
