Clean Burning Gasification Stove

• Mimi Moto’s “Original” stove is a forced air gasifier stove that uses biomass pellets as a fuel. By gasifying biomass, instead of burning it directly in an open fire, the extracted gasses burn with a clean flame.
• The stove has ISO Tier 5 test results for Thermal Efficiency (50%), Tier 5 for CO emissions, and Tier 4 for PM2.5 emissions.
• As of May 2023 it had sold 68,000 units across 23 countries in sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia.
• The technology and design of Mimi Moto are globally patented (WO2016/107688A1).

For the company:

• Saves around 4 to 5 tons of CO2 emissions per year compared to traditional cooking; significant implications for carbon credit generation capability.
• Fuel sales data make the stove eligible for metered methodology for carbon reductions, which yield higher quality carbon credits, and better prices per tonne.
• The use of mass-production facilities enables Mimi Moto to offer their stoves at around $45-60 to pellet companies, depending on product specifications and order size.
• The stove can be assembled after transportation, which means that more units can be shipped per container: 1,450 units are available in a 20ft container, and 3,300 units are available in a 40ft container.

For the customer:

• A field study in Rwanda by North Carolina State University found that the Mimi Moto Original have the potential to provide health benefits far above previously tested biomass stoves and approaching modern fuel stoves (e.g., LPG).
• With multiple removable burning chambers, the Mimi Moto Original can manage all cooking practices. The small chamber gives users the option of low-power simmering, whilst the large chamber gives users the ability to do high-power cooking.
• Heater accessories can be added to convert the Mimi Moto Original into clean and efficient space heater.

For the company:

• Accessories, such as flame-spreaders and integrated windshields protect the flame from drafts; boosting the stove’s efficiency and performance. This increase in efficiency should increase customer savings, translating to increased stove usage and increased pellet sales.

For the customer:

• The stove’s integrated fan can be powered by a built-in battery pack that can be charged by USB or from a separate solar panel for operation in off-grid areas.
• A special tool is designed to remove the chamber from the stove so that embers can be safely disposed of at the end of the cooking session, or that cooking longer meals, like beans, can happen by switching in a fresh batch of pellets; without the user having to wait for the stove to cool down.
