Statement from the Alliance on the Passing of Clean Cooking Advocate Dr. Kirk Smith
We are deeply saddened by the passing of the highly-respected professor, researcher, mentor, and passionate clean cooking advocate Kirk Smith. Prof. Smith conducted pioneering research on the impacts of household air pollution. His work formed the foundation of our sector, and his tireless advocacy for the health and well-being of women and children in the developing world has had lasting impacts far and wide.
Prof. Smith was a critical advisor in the creation of the Clean Cooking Alliance in 2010. We have been honored to work with Prof. Smith, who was an inspiration to so many of us at the Alliance – and far beyond. Our heart goes out to his family and friends, and we will continue to support his efforts to ensure no one’s life is limited by how they cook.
