Mission
Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) is a nodal institution of Government of Nepal established with objective to popularize and promote the use of renewable energy technologies in the country to raise the living standard of the rural people, to protect environment and to develop commercially viable alternative energy industries in the country. Dissemination of Improved Cooking Stoves (ICS) is one of the major activity of AEPC since 1999, supported by the Government of Nepal and various external development partners.

Clean Cooking Activities
Nepal has national campaign of clean cooking solution for all by 2017 and for this AEPC is holding regular coordination and receiving commitment from various partners and stakeholders through districts, NACC and other relevant meetings. IAP free VDC declaration was made for 150VDCs. Initiation has also been taken towards declaring IAP Free districts by supporting districts in preparing their strategic plans. Nepal Interim Benchmark for solid biomass Cook stoves (NIBC, 2014) was developed in par with the IWA standard for identification and dissemination of clean and efficient cook stoves. AEPC is actively participating in the development of ISO standard of cook stoves through ISO TC 285 coordination national mirror committee. National laboratory, Renewable Energy Test Station (RETS)/NAST is continuously supported for testing facilities and certification of biomass cook stoves. Regular inputs is provided in revision of renewable energy subsidy policy with provision for subsidy for clean and efficient cook stove models fulfilling national benchmark criteria. After the recent Earthquake hit in the country, AEPC has been lobbying for integration of clean cooking solution in the relief package aiming for rebuilding the damaged households. As clean cooking solution for all, AEPC facilitated installing household as well as institutional (1,208,026 mud based ICS, 22,463 metallic ICS, 333,474 biogas, 2,000solar cookers) all over Nepal.
