AVSI Foundation has started to deal with ICSs promotion and distribution in April 2014 as a part of an integrated slum upgrading program in Mozambique. Since then, the Domestic Energy Efficiency matter has become primary so that AVSI has developed is peculiar approach based on the following:
i) Holistic assessment and deep knowledge of the community needs;
ii) Logistical proximity to the targeted beneficiaries;
iii) Strong monitoring and impact evaluation of the whole ICSs distribution process;
iv) Field test and technological innovation;
v) Jobs creation (especially for young women) and local added value and jobs promotion.
vi) High quality ICSs price affordability fostering for low income households.
At the moment, AVSI is operating within ICSs sector in Mozambique, Uganda and Congo with the support and in partnership with GIZ-EnDev, the WB, Envirofit and other Private companies. It has distributed approximatively 35.000 ICSs and has started up the production of a local ICS model in Mozambique.
In order to increase ICSs affordability, AVSI has linked carbon credits (CDM and GS) trading (in partnership with Cloros, Carbon Sink and NEFCO) with ICSs distribution in low income areas and has promoted a strong vertical integration of production and distribution phases.
AVSI is now engaged in designing new local models technologically and economically sustainable alway with the support of EnDev program.
Partnership
AVSI aims to collaborate with the Alliance to foster affordable and quality solutions to improve domestic energy efficiency and reduce HAP in low income areas. We hope to be informed about best practices particularly for the following topics: behavior change communication; ICSs marketing and trade; ICSs high quality and low price production; modern clean fuel (e.g.: LPG) use and solutions promotion.
AVSI pretends to share with the Alliance its market approach based on proximity and holistic sight to people needs; its prefund knowledge of the targeted ICSs users, Basically, AVSI can offer a realistic vision of the ICSs market especially from the perspective of the suburban poorest ones.
