Clean Cooking Alliance Releases 2024 Annual Report
WASHINGTON, D.C., April 4, 2025 — The Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA) released its 2024 Annual Report, showcasing the organization’s progress in expanding access to clean cooking solutions. Key areas include building political commitment and capacity; strengthening carbon market integrity; and investing in customer-centered companies.
Since CCA’s founding 15 years ago, nearly 2 billion people have gained access to clean cooking fuels and technologies. Investment in clean cooking companies continues to grow, largely driven by carbon finance—a priority engagement area for CCA. In 2024, CCA helped drive momentum by launching the Principles for Responsible Carbon Finance for Clean Cooking, a partner-driven initiative unveiled at the Summit on Clean Cooking in Africa in Paris.
“Even as the world continues to grapple with significant energy access challenges, it’s worth recognizing how much has been achieved,” said CCA CEO Dymphna van der Lans. “Clean cooking has secured a place on the global agenda. Whether from a climate, environment, health, or empowerment perspective, clean cooking is increasingly recognized as a critical component of a just energy transition. Looking ahead, we’re focused on turning political and financial commitments into concrete actions.”
CCA’s Annual Report provides updates on these and many other highlights of 2024, including:
- Securing new funding from The Rockefeller Foundation to establish a Clean Cooking Delivery Unit in Kenya, embedded within the country’s presidential office.
- Partnering with the Government of Nepal to improve access to electric cooking, including through improved geospatial planning tools for energy infrastructure.
- Leading the Clean Cooking and Climate Consortium in developing the CLEAR Methodology for estimating carbon emissions reductions from clean cooking projects.
- Developing a data collection and analysis tool to help clean cooking companies better understand why households choose to cook with multiple kinds of stoves and fuels concurrently.
- Supporting investors by launching the first free, interactive tool of registered, pipeline, and retired clean cooking carbon projects.
- Providing mentoring and networking support to 90 women across Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean who are building careers in the clean cooking sector.
